I have been working in daycare for the last 15 years and I have found in the many centers that I have worked at is
-No matter what the entention of the director originally was it always ends up being about the money not the kids

-Daycare teachers are looked at like the scum of the earth!
We get paid crap and not enough credit for what we do.

Honestly with the awful pay, expensive or no health care, people wonder why there is so much turn over in daycare centers

Wow, l think that's disgusting! l can only say that my sister-in-law used to be daycare teacher, and she ended up leaving because she was so stressed out constantly, she said exactly the same thing. She was underpaid, undervalued, and overworked. IMO, there needs to be an overhaul of the whole system, as a parent, l know how much value is placed on your child's care, and l would expect that a person in the position of caring for my child would be paid better than that! My SIL is now doing a law internship, she just couldn't go back to the conditions of daycare, but to answer your question, no, no job dealing with paper is worth anything near what a job dealing with children (our most precious resource) is worth, however, this is usually the case. Sorry l couldn't be of more help.

I agree. I was a Nanny for 12 years and the pay wasn't that great. I was never offered health insurance either and got sick right along with the kids. It's a HUGE responsibility. I think day care and child care providers should all make way more money. I'm an Admin. now and make a lot more than I did as a Nanny. That's why I stopped doing it! I couldn't afford to care for kids anymore...literally!

Yep, daycare is a thankless job. Hard work and long hours for little pay. Most public service jobs are like this - police and firemen, teachers, social workers - all are underpaid for the work, in my opinion.

depends on which daycare you're working for. i worked at a daycare for a military base, and started out at a base pay of 9 dollars and th some change and after 6 months (when i became a regular) became eligible for insurance. within 2 years, my pay was 15 dollars and some change. (as a room leader) friend works daycare in philly, and started off at 11. however, with this being said, it still wasn't enough money for all that i was doing. i not only had to care for the well being and health of the child, but also their emotional and intellectual and social development so, yeah, we are underpaid and underappreciated.

I completely agree with you. It is very very sad. Luckily child care providers are not usually in their job for the money and are truly dedicated professionals.
The only problem is that it's really hard to keep the good ones because as you say, any other job will pay them more.
